Profile Picture Size Guide (Every Platform, 2026)

Exact pixel dimensions for every platform, in one table.

Updated June 30, 2026

Bookmark this page. Every platform crops and stores profile pictures differently, and uploading the wrong size is the number-one reason a good photo ends up blurry. Here’s the whole picture in one table.

The one-size rule

If you remember nothing else: upload a 1080×1080px square. It works on every platform below, downscales cleanly, and future-proofs you against higher-resolution screens. Then just keep your subject centred, because nearly everything crops to a circle.

Why “upload bigger than you need” always wins

Platforms downscale beautifully and upscale terribly. A 1080px image shrunk to a 110px circle stays crisp; a 200px image stretched to fill a retina display turns to mush. Uploading larger than the display size costs you nothing and protects you every time a platform bumps its resolution.

Design for the circle

Because almost everything crops to a circle, the corners of your square are dead space. Keep your face — or whatever matters — in the centre third, and never put important detail near the edges. What looks perfectly framed as a square can lose the top of a head once it’s a circle.

Square upload, centred subject, bigger than the display size. Follow those three and your profile picture will look sharp everywhere.

Want the content to match the crop? Start with a platform hub — each one covers what actually works for that specific app.

Questions people ask

What is the safest profile picture size for everything?

A 1080×1080px square works everywhere. Every major platform accepts it, downscales cleanly, and keeps your image sharp. Keep the important content centred because most platforms crop to a circle.

Should profile pictures be square or circular?

Always upload a square image. Almost every platform crops it to a circle on display, so design for the circle by keeping your subject centred and leaving the corners expendable.

Why do my profile pictures look pixelated?

You uploaded an image smaller than the display size, or it was compressed too hard. Always upload larger than the display resolution — 1080×1080px is a safe default — and export as PNG or high-quality JPG.
